  1. Sugar City

From the recording Illusionland

The infectious thunder of Sugar City finds Beastly wrestling with the velocity of life in a vicious cycle that’s “calling me back to life, when I’m killing myself to live”. Tragic devotion rails in vain against a menacing backdrop of sleazy proto punk fury, that makes for a fiery drama of Sugar City’s one-sided love. There’s a darkly satirical innocence that harkens back to Beastly’s own rocky experience migrating to SF that bares sharp teeth with the lines “Sugar city wish upon a star, Sugar City living in my car, lock all the doors the world is yours”. With all of its grand angsty energy and glowering menace, it makes for perversely restorative endeavor.

Lyrics

Sugar City don’t you ever sleep?
Trick or treat got a date to keep
Bleach my bones in the candy light
Harmonize with the battle cries

Paradise or promises
Your sweet rhythms in my head
Are calling me back to life
When I’m killing myself to live
In Sugar City

Sugar City love’s to thrill
So beautiful it isn’t real
Runaway on survival bliss
She’s painting her apocalypse

Paradise or promises
Your sweet rhythms in my head
Are calling me back to life
When I’m killing myself to live
In Sugar City

Sugar City wish upon a star
Sugar city living in my car
Lock all the doors the world is yours
Sugar city what you hungry for?

Paradise or promises
Your sweet rhythms in my head
Are calling me back to life
When I’m killing myself to live
In Sugar City
